At that mileage and for that price I personally would have a compression
test done. And check the known rust sites as well.

Subject: [MBZ] 1980 240D advice

Our summer law clerk is looking at a 1980 240D with 390,000 miles on it.
His sister is selling it. It is a two owner car. The previous owner was a
retired air force captain. They have a three ring binder full of service
records. The previous owner drove it for 370,000 miles. I told him to be
concerned about the transmission (its an auto) and to see if the timing
chain has been replaced. Anything else I should tell him about? They want
$2200 for it - which I think is a crazy price. BUT, his sister paid $1500
for it. Any advice would be great.
