If you are lucky, the turbo died on the W140 and is making lots of oil smoke -- this particular symptom got one of the guys on the Mercedesshop group a W140 cheap. Smoked like crazy (fogged things out) but was very much oil smoke. Fixed with a new turbo. Best of luck to you, the wife, and your son!
