The purpose of having the gasser is to drive it in the winter.

Wimp! :-)

I drive my SD year round. Without a block heater. In Iowa. With 310k miles on it. It has failed to start exactly twice--once parked outside in Wisconsin at 20 below, and once parked outside in Northeastern Maine at similar temps. In the first case, the problem was fuel gelling; in the second, tight valves. I understand ULSD gels at a higher temp than the old formulation diesel, so I run anti-gel during the real cold weather now, and get a valve adjustment late every fall. With those precautions, and that fancy garage of yours, I'd think you'd be all set. On the other hand, I regularly drive multi-thousand mile trips in mine, which keeps the carbon at bay. Once ran a can of diesel purge through it, and it ran just as fine and clean as if it were burning diesel. Have decided I don't need to do that again.
