I think the way the psychiatrist was able to be sure of my diagnosis of ADD - after a screening interview [and I am most happy I nor my son were ADHD] - was that I could take up to two or three times the dose of Ritalin with no change in effect, save the ability to do things like read a newspaper or focus on a project for more than a few minutes. He gave me what he thought was the appropriate dosage and suggested that I try that for a few days, then try more or less to see the effect. I tried doses of 'speed' that would probably have put someone without ADD into a wild trip, and felt no different with no meds, 1x, 2x, 3x or 4x the prescribed dose. Not an exact science there. A friend who has two ADHD kids says the that when his son was young he could not get through a meal without climbing on the chair, up on the table, and down on the floor almost continuously. That is ADHD, but I am sure to most people all 10 year old boys seem to have it. BillR
