I had some pleasant experiences on BA 747s. Used to go to London, and
would fly on the upper deck. At that time the pilots would leave the
cockpit door open, so you could see them, look out the front during
takeoff and landing, was lots of fun. Pilots would occasionally come
back on a short break and chit chat, would let you come up to the
cockpit jump seat for awhile. On another flt I was in first class and
the over head light wouldn't work so it was hard to read. The FA went
and got a pilot, who came back and tried to fix it, just ended up taking
it apart and couldn't get it back together right, but he would not let
me touch HIS airplane to help, too funny. We did chat a bit though, he
was a very nice guy and quite fun to talk to. I once got to fly on the
2nd flight of a brand new BA 777, it's maiden flight was from Heathrow
to Boston, I went back to Heathrow on it. It was gorgeous and smelled
like a new car! The crew was so excited about it, and were showing off
all the new gadgets.
Then there was the Northwest 747 at ORD, it was raining like a
waterfall, and a lot of it was leaking around the emerg door on the
upper deck, and I was in a seat on the lower deck right under it, water
was gushing in through the overhead light and vent holes in the ceiling
onto my head. I told the FA about that, someone might want to see if
the door was shut correctly, and maybe try to stop it so it wouldn't
short out some electrical systems. She brought me a towel to solve the
problem.

I was flying on a Northwest 747-400 from ORD to Heathrow some years back when
my business class seat broke - literally, the seat bottom cushion broke off the
hinges and promptly plopped me on the deck.
There were no other business class or first class seats open, and coach was
jammed with only middle seats open. Not good.
While we were on the ground I had asked to take a look at the flight deck and
flashed my ancient (and expired) Airman's Certificate, which got me a few
minutes of pleasant chatting with the flight engineer.
Anyway, back to my seat problem. The cabin crew came back with the flight engineer to
assess the situation, and when he saw it was me, said, "C'mon up front and I'll get
you a good seat." Heh.
I flew the rest of the way in the bunkroom for the crew. Nice. Since it was a
single crew flight, they weren't using it anyway. He later told me I was
lucky, as this plane had been substituted for that day's flight, as they
usually flew -200s on the route. (747-200s do not have the crew bunkroom, I
believe. I flew 747-400s to Asia quite often and they did have multiple crews
due to the length of the flight.)

..Yup, flew on them several times as a kid. At one
time, BOAC handed out
small flight log books. Each flight, you would ask
the go up to the cockpit
and have a chat with the captain...
Back in 1983, my late friend DJG and I were flying from
Heathrow to Frankfurt
on Lufthansa to pick up my new Porsche in Stuttgart. So,
after departure he
asks the flight attendant to take his Boeing business card
up to the cockpit.
He was working in Customer Training at the time and not
only was he called up
front but sat in the jumpseat until we started down. I
remained back in 25C or
so with my cookie.
