Work is proceeding slowly, the front yard is all dug up:
trenches for the moving of the underground power wire.
Yesterday they were out there using a weed burner to try
to thaw the ground so that they could expose the live
wire for tying into. Not a fun-looking job if you ask
me! The delay caused by this unplanned wiring project
meant that they haven't yet got the Cat in here to do
the foundation digging. Part of the plan was to use the
Cat to push over the blue spruce that's in the way.
(That way the root ball comes up too.) My plan was to
then top it for our best-ever Christmas tree, but we're
running behind. So yesterday I came home at lunch while
Jill was away (as she objected) and I scaled the tree with
a little folding handsaw. I cut off the top and came back
down. Turned out the tree had forked a few years back, so
the tree still has a top and doesn't look bad. Of course,
the fork meant that my new tree doesn't look as good as
it might have. Oh well. Part of the fun of harvesting
your own.

The good part of this new power wiring is that I'm getting
rid of the extra pumphouse meter ($20/month forever), and
I'm getting a service cutoff switch down at the power pole.
That's where I'll put the generator hut, someday.
