Fibre Channel isn't LAN stuff, its SAN (Storage Area Network) stuff... The
physical layer for it is the same (or close to) that of Gigabit Ethernet, and
is typically over multimode fiber (50/125u), but the upper layers, those that
are exposed to the computer, are more closely related to SCSI.

In THEORY you could PROBABLY do some sort of networking with them, IF you had a
device driver that supported being both a target and an initiator... but then
in theory you can do dentistry at home... ;)

I'd be interested in them if I had money (i.e. if I hadn't ... unexpectedly and
involuntarily become a man of leisure... on December 10th)...

What kind of fiber do the fibre channel HBAs use? Are they standalone
devices, or do they need to be plugged into something? I'd like to extend
our ethernet, but I don't like running Cat V cables outside.
