The vehicle is a '99 E320 seadan 4-matic and I need to remove the nut on the
universal joint and tie-rod too.
I tried the following tools and fail to losen the nut.
a) 22 mm socket
b) 22 mm open wrench
c) 22 mm crowlsfoot
The reasons on my failure are
i) cannot put the 22 mm socket into the nut even though it is a 22mm nut
because there is very little room for the socket to sit in between the nut and
the fixed arm "wall".
ii) tried the open wrench (fit well into the nut) but could not turn as
there is NO room for it to move.
iii) the problem of the 22 mm crowlsfoot is same as the open wrench.
Another issue, I am trying to replace the spark plugs on the same vehicle (97K
miles) ---
1) got to use a special 17mm (open wrench) to remove the spark plug wires
(this step is easy).
2) put the 16 mm socket wrench (special for the spark plug) and fails to
losen it.
Are all these maintenance had to be done specially at the dealer? Or the
engine has to be remove in order to change it? Or do any one know of a special
tool to perform the loosing/tightening nut on the universal joint and spark
plug?
Thank you.
