Both of our F150's have the Ford bedliner in them and although it is plastic, I don't find it all that slippery. They have worked fine for us. I did pull the one in the 98 and have a look under it once but have not done so with the 02. The bed under the liner in the 98 looked fine.
I don't know as though I would have gone out looking for one if the trucks hadn't come to me with them installed, but I am happy enough to leave them in there. Not all bedliners are slippery. I had one in my F150 that was very "grippy". I can't recall the name of it, but if you're interested I can find out. It was an actual liner, not a spray-on or coating.
