Both of our F150's have the Ford bedliner in them and although it is plastic, I 
don't find it all that slippery.
They have worked fine for us. I did pull the one in the 98 and have a look 
under it once but have not done so with
the 02. The bed under the liner in the 98 looked fine.

I don't know as though I would have gone out looking for one if the trucks 
hadn't come to me with them installed,
but I am happy enough to leave them in there.

Not all bedliners are slippery.  I had one in my F150 that was very
"grippy".  I can't recall the name of it, but if you're interested I
can find out.  It was an actual liner, not a spray-on or coating.
