I'd pull the head and take a look. The revised gasket reduces the chance of blowing through the oil passage in front of the #1 cylinder - so it's a good preventive measure. Good chance the repair shop is taking advantage of the bad reputation of WVO to pick up a juicy vehicle on the cheap.
