Actually its probably not so bad for somebody with some gumption thats willing to take a job that might be "beneath" them. Management will remember people who came in and took initiative to do a good job.
When I landed my tech support position at Pinnacle in 2003 the economy was just rebounding from that soft "recession lite". I worked my ass off for them and was well rewarded. Pinnacle got bought by Avid in 2005 and again I worked my ass off. I've done well with Avid and continue to work my ass off... For the moment the rewards have stopped but I expect them to resume when the economy does. Actually its wrong to say the rewards have stopped, the stock is rebounding and I do own some bought through the employee stock plan. I sold some a couple weeks ago for a small profit, planning on selling some more soon.
