I have the same dilemma as you all. My 190E2.3 has 2 sensors -- one front and one back. I have to take the fan, belt, and tension pulley off before I can access it and replace it with a good one. So far, I have done this removing tension pulley about 4 times this month. The last time I did it was yesterday for the sensor and my hand is burn from the belt. Now for the back, I tried looking for the wire but somehow it "submerged" into behind and on
somewhere near the top of the transmission. I cannot even find the sensor.

And now, I broken one important part along the way .... back to Rusty to get the part.

Does anyone have any other suggestions before I remove the transmission?
(87 420 SEL)Thanks, Ken

Nope, sorry. You do have my sympathies, though. I'm still trying to get
the power steering bracket off our '94 E420.

Hmmm ... 420SEL, E420 ... any coincidence they're hard to work on?
