I've been told, but have never tried to verify, that a Mercedes has more suspension travel than most cars, and is designed to use that range of travel. That's why you can drive your Merecedes over railroad tracks and speed bumps at speeds that would throw the passengers of a Japanese car through the roof, and not be bothered by them. This range of travel is not accounted for in the cheaper shocks.
