Unfortunately, applying Service Packs is a necessary evil and good for the economy. Do you have any idea how many consultants like myself would be unemployed if Microsoft's products actually worked?
Max - unless you have installed software that cannot be recreated, I'm thinking that doing a fresh install is prudent at this point. Nothing wrong with having a spare NIC on hand if you want to try that first and find your existing one is okay. I have seen intermittent behavior from hubs and switches too.
