The level of stress in my house drops dramatically when we shut off the boob-tube; that's why I've resisted getting cable and will continue to resist...
Recently I went to a leadership training session and the instructor advised all to occasionally shut-off all electronics (radio/TV/cell phone/computer/ipod) and 'fast' from all media for two or three days.
