Traction control is a scam. I have a 2002 Crown Vic with "traction control"

De UnderAchieva has traction control. The first time it snowed last fall, the engine felt sluggish, then I noticed that T/C was turned on. I'd be churning through the snow, the computer would retard the timing, and I'd feed more throttle to keep the wheels going... The result was just wasted fuel. I turned off T/C and haven't wanted to turn it back on, other than to get rid of the warning light at night.

One time I used cruise control and traction control going up an icy hill to see how the car would deal with it. The C/C mashed the throttle, the traction loss warning light came on, and the C/C hit the throttle harder and the tranny downshifted. The car never downshifts on that hill, but it does when the traction control is killing the power. Wouldn't intelligent design require the cruise control to shut off under conditions that didn't allow it to hold a steady speed without wheelspin?
