I think the top speed on the '87 300TD should be higher than 123, I can hit 125 (130 down a long steep hill) in my '91 300D 2.5Turbo with the stock 2.65 diff and 4600rpm limit. I thought the '87 124s had a 5000 or 5100rpm limit with the same 2.65 rear end, that should make them good for a true 130+.

If you push it off Pike's Peak it will go even faster. The rated top speed of a 124.133 is 202 km/h (126 mph) and that's NOT at 5100 rpm but closer to the speed at which maximum power is generated (~4600-4800 rpm). Top speed is NOT controlled by the governor in that car, but by the maximum power the engine can generate.

The purpose of the governor in THAT car is NOT to limit ground speed, but to limit engine speed so the engine will not self destruct.
