I ran into the same problems getting the tie rod ends for my W126. I finally just ordered the assembly from Rusty.
Note that from my experience if you are going to keep the car go ahead and replace both the left and right tie rod assembly, center link, idler arm, and guide rod bushings/bearings (if bad). Specifically a new alignment is going to be $60 or so and if you do it piece by piece you will be changing the other parts in the next 20-30k miles and paying the alignment 'tax' each time. Of course my philosophy is to fix everything that is worn on the car at once. Then you will not have a problem for 50-60k miles. I have nickel and dime a car together fixing it every other month, over all fixing everything at once is much cheaper in the long run. It will also keep the wife from saying "That car is worn out, you are always fixing it..." Its best to look for a Lemforder or Moog replacement part, napa seems to have a problem with suppliers of aftermarket parts. Sometimes you'll get a made in canada or the even worse aisan made part and you can bet its not even close to the original. 69 280 SEL 120,000 Miles 72 350SL 108,000 Miles 2004 VW Passat 4 Motion 1999 Mazda Miata -----Original Message----- From: LT Don <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Mercedes mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Mon, 31 Oct 2005 02:18:52 +0000 Subject: [MBZ] W123 outer tie rods -- any experience on here? Bought a set of outer tie rods for my '77 240D. When we tried to install them yesterday afternoon we found that they are too fat. The box says they are 16mm size. It was really close so I am thinking that maybe the size should be 15mm? We got them at NAPA. When I check www.buymbparts.com <http://www.buymbparts.com> I see the tie rod end but no dimensions. I'd like to order from Rusty but I must have these Tuesday evening because my mechanic is going away for two weeks on Saturday and I am tired of keeping my car "in town only" due to bad tie rods. Did NAPA just blow it on the parts (we double checked the number and that is what they show for my vehicle) or are there different diameter screws available? I don't think it is a 1977/1978 sort of error, because the NAPA site showed the same part for both years. I need to get the part ordered tomorrow from someone. Any assistance would be appreciated. -- 1977 240D 1972 Honda CB-500K motorcycle http://www.airamericaradio.com/listen _______________________________________ For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://striplin.net/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_striplin.net __________________________________________________________________ Look What The New Netscape.com Can Do!
