Kaleb:

Our Maytag dishwsher is a similar vintage and we went through the same
exercise, including a phase when I just wanted to pitch it. But after
replacement of one part inside the tub w/filters- called an accumulator- it
works like new.

I'm attaching a pic to this email which I expect will be stripped from list
distribution. The accumulator is under the main wash arm, and is basically
one piece that includes most everything you see at the base exclusive of the
wash arm. Cost was ~ $40 and replacement time was ~ 10 minutes.

I got mine locally but there are several online sellers that have really
nice parts listings w/drawings and/or schematics to confirm what you've got.
