On the pre-1980 617, I turn the key on, hit the pedal, crank the knob full left, let go of the pedal, wait for the light to go out, count to ten, and start. 2-3 miles down the road, I spin the high idle knob back to the clockwise stop and leave it there for the rest of the day.
