Correct! Its 5mm x 0.80 if anybody is interested. I didn't have a 5mm x 0.80 
die (but strangely my kit had the tap) so I chased with a 6mm x 1.0 die which 
made things better, cleaned up the outside of the threads anyway. I spaced and 
completely forgot to pick up the die when I went to the hardware store today...

My recollection is that the threaded rod corrodes
somewhat, and that's what chews the plastic to bits.
You can chase the threads with a die, which will help
immensely.  Then use some goop on it to prevent it in
future.
