The ABS on my '95 Taurus was so bad I used to shut off the ignition when approaching stop signs in icy weather. Never felt the need to do that with the '97 Achieva. I do turn off the traction control on the Achieva in November. I turn it back on in the spring, but only because I hate looking at the warning light.
