OVP = over voltage protection relay, OBP(?) = over boost protection

think that the OVP is not involved in engine protection from too much
turbo boost, but I'm not terribly familiar with the 2.5 engine so what
do I know...

Oh yes it was just a temporary bypass. This may be the first overboost
valve that wasnt plugged :D.

What about the OVP, wouldn't there be other symptoms?

Bypassing the overboost protection will not change a thing if you
didn't blow out the straw first. If the tube was plugged, the tube is
STILL plugged, and no air/vacuum passes to signal the wastegate. Try
blowing out the tube, then putting the overboost protection back in
the circuit. There are conditions where it could save you the expense
of a new engine. (and a long walk home)

I already bypassed the overboost valve on the firewall which I
believe is what that blowing air in tube fix would correct.

If the OVP relay was burnt wouldnt the AC not function as well? Good
to know about the EGR.

Stupid computers.....

First thing to do is to pull off the tube running from a splitter
at the intake manifold to the driver side fender, and blow it out
with air. That fixes about 90% of the "turbo" problems. I like
the price of the repair.
(assuming the routing is the same as on 86-87 OM603s)

If that fails, then check the OVP relay behind the battery. The
turbo wastegate is the least likely failure.

And check all pressure and vacuum lines VERY carefully, since the
overprotective mommy aka engine computer in the 2.5 disables
on-boost fuel enrichment if it thinks anything at all is not as it
should be---notably EGR.
