124 rear suspension does have the rubber spring pads on top of the rear springs; during my inspection recently I noted that mine have 3-tab pads; if I replace, I'll need new pads with 3 tabs to match the thickness specified by MB.
MB uses a formula to determine pad thickness. That formula depends on what options the car has (e.g.. Manual transmission or auto; no AC or AC; sunroof yes or no; etc) AND it depends on the length of the springs (there is a paint mark on the spring indicating a short or long spring). Did your aftermarket maker test 124 cars with all those variations in curb weight? Does their kit offer different options for different curb weight cars? I'm skeptical... -Max -----Original Message----- From: mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Rolf Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2010 9:17 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] Have you guys seen this new hotness for the W124? I ask because I have seen nothing about w124 having them. So I am not sure if you are referring to the shims or spring buffers that I have yet to see. Of course there are some issues that cannot be easily overcome in these older cars , but really you are putting too much magic into this. The spring manufacturers set these cars up and test them. I can get Bilstein and progressive rate lowering springs (which your beloved OE sportline wont have from what I have read) for 2/3 to 3/4 of the cost of a OE sportline cost. -Rolf On 8/17/2010 3:29 PM, Rolf wrote: > What do you mean by spring buffers? > > -Rolf > > > On 08/17/2010 01:52 PM, Alex Chamberlain wrote: >> On Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 10:31 AM, Rolf<r...@winmutt.com> wrote: >>> What exactly do you mean by wheel geometry? >>> >>> -Rolf >> Change in suspension measurements, including but not limited to those >> that are part of an alignment job, during changes in suspension load, >> steering angle, and slip angle.
