No gasket - just a good bead of urethane. Check for any signs of rust around the frame; the two fore/aft trim pieces pull up at the base of the hood hinge point to remove, you can tie them off to each side view mirror to hold out of the way, and then use a plastic wedge to pry out the top frame piece - all three trim pieces are simply pushed down into friction fit clamps.
My '95 E300 had a poorly done replacement windshield; the installers did not properly prime/paint the scratches in the metal frame prior to installing the new glass, so a $250 job turned into a $800 job. Also look at the rubber gasket along the base of the windshield on either side of the mono-wiper; if it doesn't lay flat, you may have to replace that. The plastic gutters underneath are also fragile and subject to breaking. -Max ________________________________ From: Craig <diese...@pisquared.net> To: mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Sent: Tue, December 14, 2010 9:11:34 AM Subject: [MBZ] E420 and windshield replacement The windshield on the E420 has some cracks running across it and I think I'm going to have to replace it. Q says there is no gasket like on the W123. Anything else I should know about before I get it done?
