Amen. Usually, I find the problem is the bushings in the shift rod.
you need to make sure the two "legs" of the actuator on the shift
lever are in the switch, then put it in neutral, loosen the screw on
the actuator, and adjust it so that the holes line up, then tighten
the screw. A drill bit of the proper size works well to get them
aligned.
Usually not a problem, but once in a while you get a switch that's
far enough off to prevent it from working with the old setting.
also make sure it's plugged in properly -- the lock ring has to be
completely released or the plug isn't seated.
Also, so the plastic bushings in the levers need to be replaced? A
sloppy shift rod from worn or missing bushings may not be moving the
switch correctly.

Subject: [MBZ] so much for installing new NSS
I was finally able to install a new neutral safety switch in my '84
300D as the original one got to a point where it would not start in
P . . . only in N. After installing the new NSS, the bloody thing
now will not start in either P or N. What's up? TIA.
