We own three 107's. (But of course we only want to own two!)
Hey there, we got another gasser last night, a Euro '72 450SL. Needs a
few
things done to it, but overall a good buy. I read that these engines
are
supposed to be pretty tough, and this one's only got 169k on it.
It was my understanding that 350SL was the euro designation, a badge
that
the first-year US 450 shared in spite of the different engine. Also
280,
and 500 were Euro. The 450, 380, and 560 motors were US. Perhaps it's
a
Euro-ized 450 that you have?
It's got ac & cruise, the fan still works, but haven't gotten the hood
open
The heater fan is no problem on the 107. They are very easy to access,
from the firewall. Is this the Philco cruise control? Or VDO (stalk)?
It was my understanding that cruise wasn't available at all in '72, so
perhaps it is a retrofit?
yet to look inside. It came w/no papers, manuals, etc, and since we're
new to
w107s, I thought I'd "ask the man who owns one". It's red, both tops,
black
interior.
Rust is bad. Soft top condition is important to its value. Otherwise
they're
much like any other MB. As an early model it's got the D-Jet FI, so
you want
to make sure that the plumbing is in good shape to avoid fires. And it
needs
periodic valve adjustments. The rear hardtop glass is expensive, does
the
rear window defroster actually work? Resistance at the plug should be
an
ohm or so. Ten ohms is bad, that's what our 450 has and it only clears
a
stripe or two of the glass. The embedded wires are very fine, and
delicate.
