Went out for another drive. Noise pitch varies with engine speed, not
road
speed. In neutral, coasting, there the noise abates.
Truly? Torque converter? Front end of tranny innards?
What is the stall speed of the engine? (Jam brakes and
throttle while stopped, note engine RPM.) Stripped stator
splines on TC connection results in whine, low starting
torque, low engine stall-speed RPM.
