Hmm, sort of parallels my experience.
First car, a $200 1975 Honda Civic CVCC hatchback in 1984.
Second car, a $700 1977 Saab 99EMS 2-door with sunroof in 1984.
Both had been repainted, the Honda looked great, the Saab looked like heck. I
couldn't believe the original owner of a $7000 car let somebody do that to the
paint.
