Hi BillR,
Glad to hear how you enjoy the list! Sorry to hear about your heart
condition - I suspect you would enjoy playing around in the engine if you
were able. I'm also disabled with nerve damage in my feet & legs - the
symptom is extreme pain which we're trying to control with Morphine and
Percocet.
Anyway - speaking of Alfa's - we test drove one in 78 - a black GTV 2.5
IIRC - it's been a few years - and I still remember the wonderful exhaust
note when I revved past 4000rpm. It made me wish there were a tunnel close
by - we liked it but it was a little too small for our needs but we'll
always remember how great it was to drive!
Isn't it amazing that a country can produce cars that are similar in design
and execution. Ferrari and Alfa are 2 very different companies but each has
a similarity in execution - at least in my perception. Same for Porsche, VW
and Mercedes - all very different but with similar driving experiences. I
can see other similaries in cars made in the US as well as those made in UK.
Do you agree?
Sincerely,
Larry T (78 240D - 285K)

I'm sincerely sorry about the registration scheme in place in Canada - it
was supposed to cost 2 million and now it's over a Billion when they
decided
to stop counting the costs. ;-\ Sadly, the removal of guns from law
abiding people in Canada will cost more lives than it saves.
Sorry - I know many of you don't want to hear about such things.
Sincerely,
Larry T (78 240D)
Larry - then there are those of us who were never that good of a mechanic,
and/or can no longer do the work [heart condition limiting exertion in my
case] but enjoy the knowledge given on MB issues to know our cars better.
That part is fun, and does bring back a few memories. I, for one, also
appreciate the thoughts on other topics that represent a different take on
issues than is presented in the US [can't speak for elsewhere] where we
have
the illusion of a free press. One of my post-grad professors [from Kenya]
held that our illusion was worse than the controlled press he had at home
because he knew what had actually happened by reading the headlines - he
knew the stories were 'fake' - where we have the illusion that everything
is
reported openly and fairly. That was about the time of the US blockade of
ports in Venezuela because we thought they wanted too much for their oil.
I
believe it rated less than 2" on an interior page of the Indianapolis Star
at the time and I never saw it on TV [didn't watch much, though]. I later
asked many individuals [traveling around Indiana at the time doing public
policy work] and couldn't find anyone who even knew about it. I signed
onto
the list when I returned to the MB fold after a few years of not having
one
- a '75 240D and four teenagers didn't mix well - but I guess I
appreciate
the other topics because I like the way MB owners think...
