Wilton wrote recently about how as a youth he hated Hitler and Tojo.

I was born in 1940. One of my earliest memories is of drawing crayon pictures of American fighter planes shooting down German and Japanese planes. This involved a sort of generic aircraft distinguished by either a star, swastika or spot - the ones with stars always shooting down the others in flames and smoke. I remember showing a batch of drawings to my mother when my seven year old brother wondered aloud whether kids were doing this the other way around in Germany and Japan. I was horrified but later came to the conclusion that probably he was right. Maybe a first introduction to philosophy.
