In the day, rodders, would buy dead or running Olds diesels just to strip them and install new heads and tweak the cam profiles and add blowers and nitrous. A couple of 1000 horsepower dragster engines started life as a Olds diesel. That is one of the reasons that people have claimed "it was made from a gas engine" because someone spent the machine time and new heads and cams to rebuild the block to gas specs and people misunderstood what was actually happening.
