If it is not expected to be cold for long where you are, you might try hanging a trouble light under the hood (or 2 of them if you like).

Or, you can get the magnetic heaters that just stick on to the oilpan to keep the oil warmed up a bit.

Or, the kind that goes in the rad hose. All much easier and probably about as effective as the in-block heater.
