There is also an additive known as DCA (decavitation additive) that can be 
added to the cooling system of any diesel engine to prevent decavitation.

We used this regularly in any engine with liners, such as Detroit Diesels.

NalCool is the best known brand, and once you add it, test strips are used to 
determine the concentration and level of protection.
