Is it possible to hook a battery up and start it without the key using just the start pull lever?
Not really, in that the key is _supposed_ to interlock the knob. But sometimes that interlock is broken... However, if you get under the hood and can disconnect the knob's cable and run the IP by hand, and hotwire the glow system, and the starter, then you should be good no matter what the key says about it.
