You can request ATT drop your voice with copper lines too a friend has
it. Just ATT DSL w/ No
Telephone number. He uses a Magic Jack for his land line.

Here, ATT offers DSL without a voice service requirement. I wish it were
available in my neighborhood. Obviously you do still need their copper pair
wire to your house.
