Well clearly if it's going to be a "35-45 mph parkway with lights here and
there" there will be no significant impact on travel times. Sounds like a
ploy to create a new shopping center strip for the Kiawah/Seabrook crowd.
Though we are Seabrook folk, I would much rather stop at the Piggly Wiggly
on Maybank or a place like JB's for food than some newly constructed
shopping center with corporate chain places. Not to mention, flying down
River Rd at 80mph in the C140 will be impossible.

The plan is to build a "parkway" design (called Alternative G) for an
extension to 526 from the end at 17. Another 4-lane bridge would cross over
to Johns Island a bit north of the existing (new 4-lane) Stono bridge, run
sorta along where River Rd is now N/S of Maybank, then go back over the
Stono on another (new 4-lane) bridge a bit south of the existing (new
4-lane) Stono bridge, thence through James Island County Park and connect to
the James Island connector, which backs up every morning by having all the
inbound traffic back up at a single-lane and light. Oh, and it floods at
high tides and storms. Alt G would be an at-grade 35-45mph parkway with
lights here and there. It would destroy lots of marshland and Johns Island
to developers (guess who supports the road?). 16 lanes of bridges to/from
this island, almost as many as go into/from Manhattan. Think about that.
$558M or $675M. Minimal benefit on travel times. And SC is like the bottom
of the list in terms of education and health of its citizens. But Emperor
Joe needs his damn road to complete his destruction of the area.
