Here is the short version of the procedure:

1. Clean everything related to the nozzles, lines and Injection pump meticulously with clean Diesel fuel or other cleaner degreaser. Blow it off with air. Repeat as needed until there is not a speck anywhere that could fall into the pump, the nozzles or the lines.

2. Remove the low and high pressure lines, cap the IP fittings, or at least cover with a clean paper towel. Cap the nozzles.

3. Pull the injector nozzle holders using a 1 1/16 or 27MM Deep socket with the splines cut all the way to the top. These are hard to find. Most deep sockets are cut only about halfway up on the inside.

4. Lay the lines and nozzle holders aside in a very clean place. I often use a new cardboard box.

5. Screw the Nozzle adapter fromthe tester into the head, attach the tester. Crank the engine over through 3-4 compression cycles. Read gauge. Mark it down an a Cylinder number VS reading number table. Release pressure.

6. Repeat as needed until you have a pretty good idea of the actual pressure.

7. Make sure pressure is released. Unhook QC. Remove nozzle adapter and copper ring. Screw the nozzle adapter in the next cylinder. GO to step 5.

BY THE BOOK, you have to replace the heat shield/seal each time the nozzle is pulled. IMHO and experience, you can get by most tomes without making the swap. You should have some new ones on hand BEFORE you start the operation in case you loose one or some are corroded/eroded. Otherwise Otto, Benzie or whatever your pet name is will be laid up for a few days while you wait on $2 worth of parts from Rusty.

Test away!

My OM 603 tested at 425PSI with 300K+ miles on it. OM 621s didn't do as well.

I wonder whether this adapter goes into the injector hole or the gow
plug hole? Looks too big for the glow plug hole, but there is little
for reference in the picture.

If you do pull an injector for compression testing, can you just put
it back, or do you need to replace seals, heaet shields, etc.???
