Which of the terminals on the starter/solenoid are you jumping with the screwdriver?
If it's the two big bolts with the heavy wires on them then the only thing that will happen is that the starter will turn. Just what is happening. If you are jumping the big wire coming into the solenoid to the small contact with the push-on terminal on it and the starter just turns then there is something wrong with the solenoid. My guess is that you are jumping the two big wires. Try jumping the incoming big wire to the little terminal and it should make the starter turn the engine over rather then just running by itself. There should be a small wire on that small terminal. If there isn't then you need to look for it because it fell off. (push-on connector too loose) That would also be why turning the key doesn't make the starter work. Nothing happens when key is turned. When I turn the key on and try to start it using the big old screwdriver, it just spins the starter. What should I check? I'm getting annoyed.
