I was thinking about the longevity, back in the day when a 240D was a "500,000
mile car" a VW diesel was a "250,000 mile car" but that was also when a gas car
that went 100,000 miles was a great car.
Today just about any gas car can go 200,000 miles with just normal maintenance
so it seems reasonable that today's TDI should go 500,000 without much issue.
At 30,000 miles a year thats still longer than I probably intend to keep one...

VW Jetta TDI is a nice car, my brother has one (5-speed manny) and get
52-55 mpg on the highway, goes like a scalded cat.

Longevity isn't Benz-like, but they are nice cars.
