I noticed that the rubber thing around the shaft appears loose. I may start with that and the mounts and see if that takes care of the noise. One other symptom, recently the shifts have been "harder", especially a downshift, more of a thunk at the rear end. Assuming the mounts and bushings are bad, what is the chance that I've buggered the flex discs as well? I don't really understand what the flex discs do, so I'm a loss diagnosing them as a problem. Zac, The flex discs are rarely a problem other than they get hard as they age and don't flex so well. Vibration is transmitted instead of isolated. Real old ones become brittle and crumble away. If you are going to do the center drive shaft mount, be aware that you have to separate the two halfs of the drive shaft to do so. You must carefully mark the two pieces so that they go back together so that you maintain the balance of the driveshaft assembly. The flex disc ends do not have to be marked Also, be aware that there is a real bearing inside the rubber mount which should be replaced at the same time. Probably about $12.
