On the M103 you also have to lift off centre, otherwise the exhaust will cause the engine to tilt, best done at the rear of the engine.

Usually have to jack up the M103 to get access to the left one (US driver's side) when they have gone flat.

Never helps when a gorilla has tightened the bolts, either.
