I did my water pump and hoses two weeks ago. The short hose between the block and the pump was NLA from Trent, so I had to hit NAPA to source something. The hose I got was 1.75" id and a bit large for the application, but I figured the hose clamps would take care of it. Probably should have tried to find 42mm hose.
I have been trying to find the leak that has been making big puddles under the car for the last ten days. There is not a real puddle, just the dark spot on the street under the car (r107) almost directly where the TC lives. Front end of the trans area has schmutz, and the drips were pretty few and far between when i camped out under the car looking to see where the drips were. I would catch it out of the corner of my eye and then stare at the place I thought it came from for minutes, mind wandered and, plop, another drip missed. Put it on ramps and that did make the puddle grow, so maybe it was fuel from the return line. I had put an ounce of ATF in the tank to maybe loosen up engine crud, and if the line is leaking, the petrol would evaporate, but the oily bits of ATF could be left behind, making the spots. What that did was increase the dripping and I could see a clearer liquid drip from the TC bottom. Sort of oily and pale, like weak tea. Could be fuel, but did not have that smell. So I got the car out of the street, into the driveway and back on ramps then removed the air filter and poked around the fuel lines. Looking at that short hose, I noticed a really good dripping. Damn hose is too big, and maybe the coolant is flowing back along the head around the intake manifold and picking up oils then sliding down the rear of the block and onto the street. I recall really cranking the clamps down, due to the oversize nature, but I gave it more attention and got almost another revolution of the screw and that seems to have slowed it down. There was no indication of serious drop in the overflow tank from the leak, so I will need to keep and eye on it. While the housing was off the car, I decided to deal with some surface oxidation and sanded and put high temp paint on. That will spiff it up. Then it decided to rain. So I am now waiting for the weather to stop and dry so I can button it all up. clay On Jun 11, 2013, at 1:21 PM, Curt Raymond wrote: > Finally ordered the lower radiator hose from Amazon, none of the inquiries > I'd made yesterday got back to me yet.
