Remove the clutch, remove the bimetallic spring, and carefully lift
the pin out that is underneath. Spend a few hours dripping oil into
the hole until it's full.
Button everything back up and you'll have a working clutch again.
Retried the newspaper test after going out on errands, and the clutch
now works; the fan doesn't stop. Guess it needed warming up? The
car still runs warm, though; the cooling system may need a good
flushing.
