I would think so but I have not seen any. I ordered one from parts.com
for my 95. Hopefully that solves problems.
Your 91 should not have the problem.

are there any after-market wiring harnesses available? Seems like it

I assume more than MB are affected? BTW, Is my '91 300D covered by
the biodegradable problem?

Yep, I have seen a few cars like this. My 92 SD had this problem,
replaced it when I pulled the engine to do the rod replacement. This
car has it but I am baffled why the thing costs double what one does
for a 140 diesel. I have another 92 SD in the back that the wiring
harness is all hacked up, It appears it had the problem and somebody
just started splicing in new wires. When I get to that car it will
get a new harness also.

The harnesses are so bad when they decompose there is no way you
would ever figure out what's going on without replacing it.
I never experienced anything like this until I replaced the bottom
engine harness in my S500. If there is any insulation it literally
falls off the minute you move anything or touch the harness.
How MB got away with not getting hit with a class action suit on
this I can't understand. I have to believe there had to be some
cars that went up in flames as a result of this.

So messing with the e300 again as you know last update ac
compressor now kicks in. Today I was running it to test vacuum
stuff and compressor was randomly kicking off and on, very much
like an intermittent contact or something. I pulled the complete
manifold to take a better look at the wiring harness. it is
screwed. The engine harness and the glowplug harness both really
need to be replaced. I think I am just chasing ghosts with this
compressor deal until I replace the harness. I am assuming the
engine harness connects to the compressor rather than it being a
separate harness, it appears to go into the main harness. So, I
guess I am going to have to order a new harness before proceeding.
I replaced both of them on my 92 SD and the main engine harness was
only a couple hundred. On this car it is over $400, wow. Also I
tried a couple of glow plugs while messing with it and they seem
really be in there tight. I did not crank on them very hard to
loosen but seem tight on the 2 I tried. They may not be bad, it
could be the harness causing the glow plug light to come on
sometimes and sometimes not. I noticed the #1 wire had come loose
from the glow plug.
