I bet one of you experts knows the answer to this mystery.
When I remove the negative cable from the battery on my 83 SD,
reconnect it, and then turn the ignition key to on, the radio blares
out loud static even though it was off to begin with. I turn off the
radio and everything is normal. Is it supposed to act this way? I
can't find anything about it in the manual.
By way of background, I have noticed that if I don't drive the
car for two weeks the battery charge goes down to below 12.0
volts. I haven't got around to working the trick of pulling one fuse
at a time to see where the charge is leaking. I don't drive the car
much so I thought for the time being I would just disconnect the
battery when parked in the barn. I suspect current is leaking
because when reconnecting the cable in low light I can see a spark
when it touches the battery post. Does the automatic static sound
from the radio indicate the radio is the problem? The radio is
original. The battery is 5 years old.
Thanks for your help.
