Actually, yes.  When ULSD was first mandated, exhaustive testing was done
on semi truck engines of early design to ensure it would not damage them.
You may know that the largest use of diesel fuel is by trucking industry..

Initial runs of ULSD found that it did not have enough lubricity to
properly lubricate the early style injection pumps and early failure was
common. ULSD formulation was adjusted and now is supposed to lubricate
enough.

Even so, many who run older injection systems add lubrication to the fuel,
just to be sure.
