Could this explain his unusual vocalization?

What language is he singing in? Certainly not French, too crisp and heavy
on the rolled 'r'.
I know this was French, but his inflection is all wrong, it's too rhythmic
and like Italian/German/English. French is a smooth language with very
little inflection. His recit sounds way too Italian and just a little
like French.

Alfredo Kraus, singing the Pearl Fishers aria, is one of my all time
favorites.
