Ssanyong is maintaining its expansion strategy on the Australian market and has announced it will import the Kyron range of four-wheel-drives to Australia next year. Kyron looks to be a medium-size wagon and is likely to be promoted for its safety, yet at typically low SsanYong prices. Engines familiar to SsanYong models already sold here, such as the Rexton, will be in the Kyron range. They are the 2.7-litre turbo-diesel five-cylinder and the double overhead camshaft 3.2-litre V6 petrol jobs made under licence from Mercedes-Benz. However, SsanYong says it is "particularly proud" of a new common-rail two-litre diesel engine that it has developed in house. All three engines will be offered on Kyron in Australia. The importers promise the Kyron will be a "genuine sporty 4WD". It will have multi-link suspension, optional 18in-diameter wheels, an advanced electronic stability program linked to an active rollover protection program, as well as hill-descent control. Also optional is driver seat memory, which is able to store the seat and mirror settings for three separate people. A five-speed manual or the T-tronic (that is, Mercedes-Benz type) five-speed automatic will be the transmission choices. Dual front and side curtain airbags are part of the standard safety gear, as are ventilated disc brakes with ABS and a brake-assist system. SsanYong Kyron is due to go on sale in Australia in the second quarter of 2006 following its overseas launch in the first few months of the year. Pricing is yet to be finalised but Rapson Holdings, the SsanYong distributor in Australia, is expecting an entry-level model to be about $35,000. -- Knowledge is power... Power Corrupts.
