It turns out that mine have pins that would prevent the saw method.  They
are smooth tapered pins about 1/4" long.  All they do is set the place.  I
ended up using outdoor glue to hold it in place.

Some guys like to saw it off with a loop of fishing line behind the badge.
Almost impossible to bend or break the badge that way.
